Daniel A. Wood

Chief

Chief Wood has been involved in the fire service for over 40 years. Growing up in Middlesex County, Chief Wood joined the Avenel Fire Company in Woodbridge as a junior firefighter and served for a few years there before his family moved to Edison where he joined the Edison Fire Department as a volunteer. Chief Wood was hired by the Edison Fire Department as a career firefighter in 1995, retiring in April after having been a career firefighter for over 25 years. Aside from firefighting, Woody (as he is known around the firehouse) is also a certified EMT and is an EMS instructor for Atlantic Health System. There, he is helping to train the next generation and current Emergency Medical Technicians succeed on the job.

John D. Kemp

Assistant Chief

Deputy Chief Kemp has been a member since 2014 and has consistently been one of our top responding members having four consecutive years with 200 calls or greater. Deputy Chief Kemp graduated from Montclair State University in May of 2020 with a Bachelors Degree in Communications. He currently works for Peapack-Gladstone DPW.

Warren J. Gisser

Assistant Chief

Assistant Chief Gisser came to Brookside in 2013 from the Randolph Township Fire Department Mount Freedom Fire Company #3 where he had served as Battalion Chief. A frequent top responder and the backbone of our night time crew. He is the recipient of the 2017 Chief’s Award for his above and beyond contributions to our fire company.

Erik Haversang

Lieutenant

Erik Haversang joined Brookside Engine Company in July 2022. Previously, Erik was a firefighter with the Essex Fells Fire Department and a member of Saint Michael’s Fire & Rescue (VT) where he served as the Fire Chief. Erik is excited to be serving as an officer again and looking forward to a great year. 

Josh R. Wolfson

Engineer

Chief Engineer Wolfson began his fire service career in 2005 with the Ironia Fire Company in Randolph Township. He then spent many years as an EMT and officer of the Morristown Ambulance Squad, serving as Captain in 2013 and 2014. 

Josh joined Brookside Engine Company in 2018. He has served as the association Vice President as well as truck captain for Engine 2 and Engine 3. 

He looks forward to working hard as the Chief Engineer and ensuring that all of the Engine Company’s equipment is in operational shape. 

Josh works full time as an independent claims investigator with his company focusing on commercial trucking liability.
