2.         Tank truck for Ralston

            Commercial tank truck

Tank 800 to 1000 gpm at 100 psi with refill at least 200 gpm

            The probable cost $8,500.00

 3.        Auxiliary equipment:

For both companies, pack‑type foam equipment for oil burner fires.

Detergent or wetting agent chemicals to be added to tank water to increase effectiveness on interior fires and hay fires.

4.         Hose

A program to bring both companies up to at least 1500 feet of 2 1/2 inch hose and 400 feet of 1 1/2 inch hose, plus 50% in reserve was put together. Recommendations were given to the committee by chief engineer H.R. Bogardus, and the Fire Insurance Rating Organization of New Jersey.   The National Fire Protection Association suggested specifications for Automobile Apparatus. Quotations on fire apparatus were supplied by the N. J. Fire Equipment Company. A local dealer gave quotes on trucks and tanks.

Messrs, Woodhull, Fleming, and Leonard supplied local experience.  Both had experience with most of the neighboring fire companies and at actual fires. Each of their recommendations was based on problems encountered under actual fire fighting conditions.

In its second report of May 14, 1961 the Mendham Township Fire Engine Committee made a specific recommendation for the purchase of a replacement pumper for the Brookside Fire Company. A financial program was also presented which provided for a water truck at Ralston and for replacement of the other fire apparatus in the Township as it reached the end of its useful life.

In the summer of 1957 the Fire Equipment Committee was organized at the suggestion of Township Committeeman, E. W. Roessler.
