Q: Who runs Brookside Engine Company #1?

 

A: We have two separate branches  in the fire company, the Line Officers and the Executive Officers.  The Chief and President are the two division heads.  The Line Officers consist of the: Chief, Assistance Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, and Chief Engineer.  The Executive Officers consist of the: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, and Financial Secretary.  The Line Officers are responsible for the firematic's of the department, and all that is involved in putting out fires.  The Executive Officers are responsible for the day to day operations, from preparing budgets to fund raising.

Q: Is there a “non-emergency” phone number to Brookside Engine Company #1?

 

A: Yes, our phone number at the firehouse is (973) 543-7213.  This number is a non-emergency phone number.  We are generally at the firehouse only when there is a fire call.  We do have voice mail.

 

Q: I need to mail a some correspondence to the fire department, what is the mailing address?

 

A: Our mailing address is:  Brookside Engine Company #1, PO Box 196, Brookside, NJ 07926-0196 

 

Q: How do I get a copy of a fire incident report?

 

A: You may call either the Mendham Township Police records bureau at (973) 543-2581 or Mendham Township Fire Official, at (973) 543-4555

 

 Q: Does Brookside Engine Company #1 offer CPR and/or first aid classes to the public?

 

A: No, we are separate from the Mendham Township First Aid Squad.  If you need a CPR class please contact the first aid squad at (973) 543-1212 (non-emergency)

 

Q: Do you get cats out of trees or rescue pets?

 

A: It depends on the situation.  We have found that placing a can of tuna or food at the bottom of the tree and leaving the immediate area usually does the trick.  A pet rescue is a different.  We will have to evaluate the situation and assess the risk to our firefighting personnel.  Provided that there is no unsafe condition's we may attempt a rescue.

 

Q: Will the fire department inspect my home for fire safety?

 

A:  Mendham Township has a Fire Official that will do this.  The Fire Official may be contacted at town hall, (973) 543-4555. 

 

Q: Does Brookside Engine Company #1 service fire extinguishers?

 

A: No.  We suggest you look in the yellow pages.

 

Q: Are tours of the firehouse available?

 

A: Yes.  We are glad to show you or your group our facility and apparatus.  Please call our firehouse non-emergency phone at (973) 543-7213 to leave a message for the fire chief.

 

Q: Does Brookside Engine Company #1 install smoke detectors?

 

A: We do not, but the towns Fire Official can help you with that.  Mendham Township Fire Official may be reached at town hall, (973) 543-4555

 

Q: My insurance company is asking me about ISO ratings, fire hydrant locations, or where the closest firehouse is to my home.  Who should they contact?

 

A:  Any questions from insurance companies regarding fire protection needs to be directed to Mendham Township Fire Official.  He may be reached at town hall, (973) 543-4555

 

Q: I’m selling my house and need an inspection who should I contact?

 

A: Please contact Mendham Township Fire Official at (973) 543-4555

 

Q: I have a burn permit that was issued to me by the state, who should I contact when I am ready to start?

 

A:  You need to call our dispatch center and advise them.  They may be contacted at (973) 543-2581.  Be prepared to provide your name, phone number, address, and permit number.  You also need to call them back when you are done.

 

Q: Does Brookside Engine Company #1 rent out the firehouse for private functions?

 

A: No, we only let members use the firehouse for private functions.
